Manulena – cold wax. Since 1968, this Portuguese family business, nestled on the outskirts of Fátima, has been producing some of the most exquisite wax objects the world has ever seen. It all began when the company's founder, Manuel Pedro Custódio, started making novena candles and altar candles for the Catholic faith. Today, Manulena's candle-making expertise remains intrinsically linked to its origins. Back then, the wax had to be of the utmost quality to ensure the candles would last until the end of the religious processions and keep their shape while burning, from one ceremony to the next. These characteristics remain unchanged, and each object is hand-crafted with the aid of a mould. After pouring, the wax makes its way through this mould before settling into its solidified form in the desired shape. Diptyque have joined forces with Manulena to show wax in a new light: neither wick nor perfume, it is cast into shapes ranging from the simplest to the most sophisticated.
